Motorcycle maintenance is easier than most people think. Having sold motorcycles for a while I realized that my customers assumed they need to bring their bike in to be serviced, just like they do with their car.

Sometimes they do, most of the time they don’t.

We created this site with the intention of helping your average rider be able to maintain their bike on their own, for the most part.

Are we going to help you do your own valve adjustments? No.

Are we going to help you do your own oil changes, brake pads, and chain replacements? Of course, that’s the easy stuff.

Let’s get started. Simple maintenance boils down to basic prep and having the right tools. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Owner’s Manual specific to your bike
  • A front and a rear spool stand
  • Basic tools (wrenches, ratchet, sockets, allen keys)
  • Oil bucket
  • Gloves (Come on man, keep your hands clean)
  • Some niche tools: chain breaker and rivet kit, tire pressure gauge.
  • Chain cleaner and chain lube
  • Axel grease
  • Air filter cleaner

Start with the above items and you can do the basic maintenance tasks.

The posts we put together are not a step-by-step instruction that works for all bikes. An R6, you’ll need to move the fairings out of the way for certain things- a naked bike you won’t. Always refer to your owner’s manual to make sure there are no additional steps specific to your bike that you might be missing.

Hopefully this site helps on your journey as a new rider.
